The Health Fee and Charges
The Campus Health Fee is a fee that every student at UNC-Chapel Hill pays through fees/tuition each term. It is a mandatory requirement. This fee entitles students and Postdoctoral Fellows to services at Campus Health Services. The Campus Health Fee covers most professional charges, excluding specialty care. However, due to the ever-increasing cost of providing health care, we do have to charge for specific services which students may need. We recognize that many students have limited financial resources; and we make every effort to keep these additional charges to an absolute minimum. Because of our size and scope, we are able to keep costs very low. Students will be asked to present their insurance card at each visit. NOTE: - All insurers require the subscriber’s date of birth for claim submission. Students should have this information available when they check-in for their appointment.
- CHS will electronically submit the claim form. This does not include verifying eligibility or benefits. Therefore, it is the student’s responsibility to follow-up with their insurance company for all unpaid claims.
- The charge will then be transferred to the student’s account at the Office of Student Accounts and University Receivables which they will be responsible for paying.
- Some insurance companies will send the reimbursement directly to the policy holder. However, some may send payment to CHS.
- If CHS receives the payment, the check will be forwarded to the Office of Student Accounts and University Receivables to be applied to the student’s account.
- Additionally, a student may pay for services at checkout and no insurance will be filed.
At the time of service, students may check out with the Campus Health Services Cashier. We request that students pay for all drug co-pays at the time of service. Charges that are not paid on the date of service or by the end of the business week, are automatically transferred to the student's account at the Office of Student Accounts and University Receivables in the Student and Academic Services Building (SASB) North.Read more about: charges that are covered by the Campus Health Fee, charges that are not covered by the Campus Health Fee, payment for services, payment options, bills, holds on registration, spousal care, and summer care.
