Angie Castillo, MSW, LCSW, LCAS‑A is a bilingual licensed clinical social worker with the Multicultural Health Program at CAPS. Angie was born and raised in Panamá, where she earned her BA in English from Universidad Tecnológica Oteima before completing her Master of Social Work at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Her multicultural background deeply influences her commitment to increasing access to culturally responsive mental health services and supporting students as they navigate identity, belonging, and life transitions.
Angie has experience in outpatient therapy, crisis intervention, and community‑based work with diverse populations. Her clinical interests include supporting people experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, co‑occurring concerns, women’s issues, and the impacts of racial and gender differences. She has particular interest in working with Hispanic and immigrant students navigating cultural identity and adjustment. Angie is passionate about reducing mental health stigma and helping students move through cultural, academic, and personal challenges with confidence and support.
In her therapeutic work, Angie draws from Motivational Interviewing, CBT‑informed strategies, DBT skills, mindfulness, and person‑centered approaches. She is committed to creating a warm, collaborative, and non‑judgmental space where students feel seen, supported, and empowered.
In her free time, Angie enjoys taking road trips, spending time in nature, and being with family and friends.
