Supporting Each Other through Finals

Let’s get through finals by being the kind of friend we all hope to have.

Listen like it matters—because it does.

One of the most powerful things we can do for each other is to truly listen. Not the half-scrolling kind. Not the “yeah, totally” kind. But the kind where you put down your phone, look someone in the eye, and just be there. Finals don’t erase our need for connection. So ask how someone’s doing—and really care about the answer. Offer your full attention. Listen without jumping in to fix. Ask if they want to be heard, helped, or hugged. Then meet them there.

Rewrite the script.

“How are you?” is more than small talk. It’s a chance to shift the energy. You can be honest and hopeful. Try, “I’m tired, but I’ve been taking walks to clear my head,” or “I’ve been anxious, but I’m proud of how much I’ve learned.” Then ask your friend what’s helping them get through. We can normalize the mess and the effort to help build a culture where wellbeing is a priority.

Support the work, not just the person.

Being a good friend during finals doesn’t always look like deep talks. Sometimes, it’s showing up at the library with snacks or text a friend to go study together. Help each other thrive thru finals!

  • Study, teach and quiz each other.
  • Proofread each other’s papers.
  • Walk to study spots together.
  • Set goals and hold each other to them.
  • Remind each other to rest and eat and breathe.
  • Celebrate the small wins.
  • Attend Week of Balance events together.

Care in motion.

Care doesn’t always need to be spoken. It’s in the soup you make for your roommate, the Target run where you grab an extra snack for a friend, the five-minute dance break, or the quiet moment under the trees. It’s in reminding someone they are more than their grades. It’s in being real—with joy, with exhaustion, with your whole heart.

Let’s show up for each other the best we can as we get through the finals together.
