Emerge is for students to address the experience and impact of being Black, Indigenous, or a Person of Color (BIPOC), a woman or nonbinary, and surviving and healing experience of sexual violence.
Cultural norms, stigma, and other challenges can make seeking support feel difficult or even impossible for BIPOC communities.
Emerge is here to provide an opportunity to remove your superhuman cape and no longer bear your burdens alone. In this space and with this community, you can discuss and process your thoughts, emotions, beliefs, and more as we explore the impact of surviving sexual violence, particularly as a person of color.
What to expect:
In the first session, we’ll spend some time developing agreements for how the rest of the group sessions will operate including themes or topics group members may wish to discuss.
Experiences of group members may include childhood sexual abuse, recent sexual assault, or both. There is no comparison, judgment, or minimization of anyone’s truth or story in this group. Instead, we aim to foster an environment of support for you and wherever you may be on your healing journey.
How to get connected:
If you are interested in joining the group or would like more information, the first step is to complete this interest form. Once we receive your form, a group facilitator will reach out to schedule a time to meet with you. The purpose of that meeting will be to share more about the structure and goals of the group and answer any questions you may have. There is no expectation that you share details of your trauma experience during this meeting and you aren’t required to do so during the group either.
