Phone Migration and Outage - 6/23/23

CAPS is undergoing a phone migration to move from one system to another that will begin on Thursday, June 22nd at 5 pm and be completed sometime on Friday, June 23rd. Please plan for the possibility of a phone system outage during this time; numbers called during the transition may indicate the line has been disconnected.

Protocol, the after-hours mental health response service used by CAPS, is available during non-business hours while the CAPS main phone number is down by calling 855-230-7724.

We recommend planning to use alternate methods of communicating with CAPS and Campus Health about non-urgent matters during the phone transition times such as the Healthy Heels portal.

If you are experiencing a life-threatening emergency, call 9-1-1 or go to the nearest emergency department.

Academic Success

We believe that all UNC students have the ability to be successful, and that success at Carolina requires commitment and hard work.

Most students find that college coursework is more difficult and demanding. You’ll likely find that you need to spend a lot of your time studying and that you have to create systems to help you stay organized and on top of your responsibilities. Research shows that persistence, sustained effort, and commitment are more predictive of academic success than intelligence.

Life stressors and personal challenges can also interfere with your academic stress. Counseling and Psychological Services, The Learning Center, and The Writing Center offers support for students struggling with concerns such as:

  • Perfectionism
  • Procrastination
    • How To Tame Procrastination
    • Motivation and Habits
  • Anxiety about school and the future
  • Tips to keep you on track
    • How to Succeed at Carolina
  • Difficulty speaking or presenting in class
  • Family or relationship concerns
  • Having too many responsibilities and not enough time for academics
  • Overworking or Not Resting
