The Quiet Work Behind a Healthier Campus
Public health isn’t loud. It’s not trending. It doesn’t go viral.
But it does keep you safe, well, and able to thrive at Carolina.
Public health is the reason why…
- Water bottle refill stations exist.
- You can get free flu shots.
- There are safer sex tools available.
- You have over 100 mental health resources available, including crisis support like CAPS 24/7.
Public health is why…
- You can request companions to safely walk home with you at night.
- Fentanyl test strips and Naloxone are free.
- Campus has nature spaces, walking and biking routes, and free bus access.
- Student groups can get funds to host substance-free events on evenings and weekends.
People across campus are working to support your health, not just when you’re sick, but every single day.
Public health means:
- Protecting mental health
- Preventing substance misuse
- Making sure you have access to care
- Giving you tools to make informed decisions
- Helping create a campus where everyone has a fair shot at health
This National Public Health Week, remember:
Your health is shaped by more than your choices —
It’s shaped by your community, your environment, and the systems around you.
And you play a role in public health too:
- When you check in on a friend.
- Wear a mask when you’re sick.
- Take care of your body and your mind.
- Speak up when something isn’t right.
Public health is the culture of compassion and care we have here at Carolina.
It’s us, looking out for each other.
It’s Carolina, at our best.
